Quarters Edition

The Quarters have come and gone, and there weren’t too many surprises.  Even though I didn’t pick them, I figured that 4! would win if they had a full squad.  Now that the big split has been made between the chumps and champs, next week’s games won’t be filled with “gimmes”.   But, before we get to that, take a look below to see what happened.

Recaps:

 7 Seas” (2-6) versus “Hell’s Bells” (7-1)

We’ve been hearing this word a lot in connection to the “7 Seas”: Forfeit.  Yeah, it sucks.  It seems that Captain Ben recruited a lot of B-boys, and at the last minute, discovered that he couldn’t even field 5 warm bodies.  So it goes, but let’s face it: nobody picked the Seas to upset the Bells anyway.  So really, everybody wins… Sort of.  Hell’s Bells by forfeit.

“32 Colts” (5-3) versus “Golden Girls” (2-6)

The Golden Girls came out, and contrary to popular belief, was not content to just lay down and die.  Captain Britta (as always) had a full, motivated squad- while the Colts (for once!) actually had subs.  Amazing!  Anyway, the Girls and the Colts ran neck and neck to about the 18th point.  The Colts then downshifted into 4th gear, whereas the Girls just didn’t.   With the help of a couple of breaks, the Colts went on a 6-2 run, and took care of business.  Final: 15-11, 32 Colts.

“Red Scare” (5-3) versus “No Fear” (3-5)

After threatening to forfeit, Brodie- that magnificent stallion of a man- appeared in the parking lot, and so No Fear was able to field 6 players.  The Reds were also a little short, but did have 7 plus a sub.  The Lieutenant- as we all know by now- plays cut throat, and didn’t even consider matching Matt’s 6.  As it turns out, that was the right decision.  With great play by all of No Fear’s crew, they were able to keep pace for much of the game.  But let’s face it: it’s hard to win with 7 going against 6.   After closing the score to 14-13 (Red), the Scare received the pull, marched down the field, and punched the disc in.  Final: 15-13, Red Scare.

“4!” (4-4) versus “Green Goblins” (4-4)

Ladies and gentlemen: a monster has snuck into league, and it’s not Green.  Captain RJ has created something called the “Funnel” Zone, and the Goblins were on the ropes from the start.  And- 4! actually showed up with more than 4 players for once.  The Goblins were then reduced to wildly hucking it into the endzone.  Unfortunately for them, the ever-nonchalant Leathers easily snatched the disc, time and time again.  In a blowout, 4! rolled.  Final: 15-6, 4!
