Honestly, this was a boring day in history: in 1939, the Nazis pretended that Poland attacked a German radio station, and so they used that as a pretense for war.  The original idea had been to claim that the Poles were working on a military nuclear program, but that was rejected as being “far-fetched.” Their fall back, of course, was to say “9-11”, but luckily, that proved unnecessary.

The field of course was as lovely as ever as we waited for a friendly hospital game to run its course.  Standard: humid, with an east-west set, and two game of 7/11.  Also, there were no chicken bones.  Yay!

Team 1: Nathan, Marina, Coach, Showkiller, Dred, Seth, Mike, and the Anti-Mike.

Team 2:  Pilgrim, Mr. Jeckyl, Pilgrim, Marathon (John D), Kink, Obama (Huseyin), Skrit, The Future, Jonathan the Pirate King, and Smarta-Marta

Game One:  This was one of those rare blow outs, where nothing seemed to go right for the 2s.  At the 2nd point, it was all tied up.  After that, the 2s rode the elevator all the way into the basement.  So it goes.  Final: 11-4, Team 1.

Game Two: This was a more exciting game, with the 1s and 2s keeping it close through the 15th point.  The 2s then opened it up with a 3-1 run, and so that was that.  Final: 11-8, Team 2.

The LoSG did occur.  Points: 19-15

Counts: still don’t have ‘em.

Boxscores (and totals eventually) are below the fold.

See you Wednesday (today!)

FRIDAY, AUGUST 29, 2008

On this day in 1786, Shay’s rebellion happened.  What a shock: Americans didn’t want to pay their taxes.

Tonight, disaster struck as half the stats just simply disappeared.  They’re gone, I tell you. Gone!  Bloody hell.  Standard stuff:  The weather was nice and humid, and just the best way to end August, with an East-West set, and a field that is as good as it’s going to get.  What’d I miss?

Team  1: Kink, Surly (Nathan), Mike, and Josh

Team 2: Johnny, Coach, Smarta-Marta, Huseyin, Robber (Ashton), and the bruiser we simply call “Wayne”

Game One: You know, it was a 1s kind of night as we played on a ¾ field, surrounded by lovely cans of concrete with dangerous looking poles sticking out of them.  Vlad the Impaler would have been excited.  Anyway, the game was close, but the “older gentlemen” plus Josh proved to be just a bit too much.  Final: 11-9, Team 1.

Game Two: This too was a fairly tight game, with a hard cap declared at 9, which eventually made it to the universe point.  Ties, by the way, happened at every single even score.  Final: 9-8, Team 1.

There was no LoSG.  Points: 20-17, respectively.

No updated counts of games as of yet.

Boxscores are below the fold.
